Air Conditioning Service
No cold air is usually a leak, not a dead system.
Why it matters
Your air conditioning moves heat out of the cabin using refrigerant. Refrigerant does not get used up — if it is low, it escaped somewhere. A proper repair finds the leak, fixes it, and then recharges the system. Topping it off without finding the leak just means paying again next summer, and many older systems use refrigerant that is no longer produced.
Signs it is time
- Air is not cold, or only cools while you are moving
- Cooling fades when the car idles in traffic
- Compressor clicks on and off rapidly
- Oily residue or dye visible near hoses and fittings
- Musty smell from the vents
If you wait
Running a system that is low on refrigerant and oil can seize the compressor. A leak repair and recharge is far cheaper than a compressor, receiver-drier, and expansion valve.
